Lost amid the chaos of all the cancelled flights and airport delays is the fact that new premium carriers—also known as boutique airlines—are aggressively entering the market. Magnifica Air, a Florida-based startup readying for takeoff in 2027, is a cross between a private jet and commercial first class. Initial routes are expected to link key business and leisure markets, including New York, Miami, Los Angeles and Houston. Meanwhile, Taipei-based Starlux Airlines is offering both short-haul service within Asia and long-haul flights to the West Coast of the United States, and soon-to-launch Riyadh Air will operate a fleet of Boeing 787s from the airline’s main hub in Saudi Arabia.
