ST. CROIX — The aromas of Creole cooking and freshly harvested produce will fill the air at Gasaway Service Station & Deli later this week as the local business hosts its 4th Annual Gasaway Creole & Market Day — a two-day celebration of Virgin Islands food, culture, and community spirit.

Running from Friday, October 31 through Saturday, November 1, from 6:00 a.m. until, the event will feature a full vegetable market alongside a robust Creole-inspired menu. Attendees can expect to find everything from dasheen, cucumber, ginger, seasoning pepper, sweet potatoes, and cocoa sticks to essential oils and other locally sourced products.

Proprietor Marsha Dubois described the upcoming celebration as “pure Creole vibes in every sense of the word.” She added, “From cassava, rice, pudding — all the Creole vibes.”

The menu will showcase traditional dishes such as roasted johnny cake, roast plantain, breadfruit, and ground provisions, along with a range of savory favorites like smoked chicken callaloo, smoked meat callaloo, crab backs, seafood callaloo, titiwe acra, smoked meat in papaya sauce, fish in Creole sauce, fried fish, salmon balls, and saltfish cakes.

Those with a sweet tooth will also have plenty to enjoy, including stuffed avocado, mashed breadfruit, and pelau, all prepared with the signature homemade touch Gasaway is known for.

In addition to the food and produce market, the event will provide an opportunity for community members to support local farmers, artisans, and small food vendors — a hallmark of Gasaway’s ongoing commitment to showcasing Virgin Islands craftsmanship and culture.

Located along the Christiansted Bypass, Gasaway Service Station & Deli has become synonymous with local flavor and community connection. As in previous years, the Creole & Market Day is expected to draw a steady crowd of residents and visitors eager to sample the Caribbean’s finest dishes and reconnect with the warmth of Crucian hospitality.
