Catch up on the top stories Rhode Islanders will be talking about today.
You may have your favorite diner, drive-in or dive in Rhode Island, but has it been visited by Guy Fieri?
Well, one particular establishment in Rhode Island that was featured on Fieri’s famous food-travel show, “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives,” was just named a gem by Food Network.
“Here’s a gem from each state — plus DC! — to celebrate more than 40 seasons of Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives, from fan-favorites still beloved years after being on TV to those Triple D spots with the most unique flavors,” Food Network said.
Here’s the restaurant that was featured on the Food Network list and how it’s doing now.
Evelyn’s Drive-In – Tiverton, Rhode Island
Food Network chose Evelyn’s Drive-In in Tiverton, Rhode Island, because of its decades-long commitment to the region’s culinary culture of fried seafood.
Here’s what Food Network had to say about it: “Originally founded by Evelyn DuPont in 1969 and owned by Domenic and Jane Bitto since 1987, Evelyn’s Drive-In is a legacy of hospitality. The Tiverton, Rhode Island, institution is all about New England seafood, and it’s famous for the fried clams — still done Evelyn’s way. If you go, you have to try the Rhode Island-style chowder, which Guy tried during his visit back in Season 2. It’s a clear chowder made without cream. Only when the dish is served is cream added, but it’s much lighter than other clam chowders.”
Evelyn’s Drive-In is still open but has closed for the season. Their website says that they will open back up in May 2026.
You can find Evelyn’s Drive-In at 2335 Main Road in Tiverton, Rhode Island.
In addition to Rhode Island style clam chowder, they serve other classic Rhode Island seafood include RI style calamari and stuffies.
Visitors from Fall River may be happy to hear that Evelyn’s still serves Fall River chow mein, both their lobster variant and their plain chow mein plate with the option to add chicken or beef.
