We Brits are known for our love of travel. With the majority of our year filled with dreary weather, escaping to a sunnier location is often a necessity.

That’s why we’re always on the hunt for warmer destinations to visit throughout the year. This explains why Spain, Greece, and Turkey are among the top holiday spots for British tourists.

However, finding the ideal place to visit at a specific time of year can be tricky. Is Barcelona best in May or September? Is there a European destination perfect for a beach Christmas?

Such queries often lead us to seek advice from travel experts. Now, one such expert has provided a comprehensive guide on which country to visit each month of the year.

In a TikTok video, holiday guru Rob shared his recommended 12 destinations based on the month of the year you wish to travel – and most of them are quite affordable.

    1. January in Tenerife

Rob suggests Tenerife as it enjoys a comfortable 22 degrees in January. While it’s a favourite tourist spot all year round, flight and hotel prices often decrease after the new year.

There should also be fewer tourists during this period, as people tend to travel more in the summer. This means you can escape the chilly January weather in the UK and enjoy a warmer, quieter Tenerife.

    2. February in Marrakech

The travel expert suggests escaping the February blues with a trip to Marrakech, Morocco. He describes it as “warm, fun, and cheap”, making it an ideal destination for a winter getaway.

He further adds: “This place is perfect before the summer kicks in. Rooftop dinners, mint tea, and markets that will wake you up from winter mode.”

    3. March in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, US, is Rob’s top pick for a March holiday despite being one of the pricier options on his list. While acknowledging cheaper alternatives like Malta or Madeira, he insists that if you’re looking for something more lavish and have the budget, Vegas is the place to be.

With temperatures around 22 degrees in March, it’s not exactly tropical but certainly warmer than most parts of the UK at that time. Plus, there’s “plenty to do” in this vibrant city.

    4. April in Rome

If you’ve ever fancied exploring the sights of Rome, Italy, but have been deterred by the crowds, then April might be the perfect time to visit. He refers to April as a “sweet spot” for Rome, with warm weather that’s not too hot for sightseeing, and before the majority of tourists descend on the city.

He said: “For April, one place springs to mind immediately, because April is a sweet spot here before all the crowds turn up. Warm enough for gelato and piazzas, and cool enough to actually be able to walk through them all day, Rome is at its best when the locals outnumber the tourists.”

    5. May in Antalya

As summer begins to take hold back home in the UK, Rob recommends visiting somewhere where the season is “already in full swing”, with temperatures of around 27 degrees. So his pick is Antalya in Turkey.

He said you can enjoy a fantastic all-inclusive holiday in Antalya in May for “half the price” of the same trip in July, making it the perfect time of year to soak up the sun in the Mediterranean resort city.

    6. June in Rhodes

Rob said it was a “no-brainer” to choose a Greek island for June, and whilst there are many to choose from, he insisted they “don’t get much better” than Rhodes. He said: “Hot but not unbearable, crystal waters, and lovely beaches before the peak season starts.”

    7. July in the Algarve

By this point, we’re well into summer, and even the UK is warm enough for most of us. Holidays at this time of year are also more expensive as it’s the beginning of the peak season, meaning anywhere you want to go is likely to be quite busy.

If you’re looking to whisk the children away once school wraps up at the end of July, Rob suggests planning a trip to Portugal’s Algarve region.

The travel expert described the location as “family-friendly” and often more affordable than Spain during this period, despite being a highly sought-after destination in its own right.

    8. August in Croatia

August is another month that sees a surge in holidaymakers, particularly families wanting to escape while the schools are on summer break. Therefore, Rob advises steering clear of crowded spots like Spain and Greece and trying out somewhere less frequented but equally stunning, such as Croatia.

He stated: “There are not many places more beautiful in the world than Croatia in August. Yeah, it’s a bit busy, but it’s worth it. Island hopping, beach clubs, perfect turquoise water, it’s like Ibiza but half the price and double the charm.”

    9. September in Seville

With the summer crowds starting to thin out, it’s the perfect time to visit Spain’s hottest city and bask in the sun as autumn begins. According to Rob, by September, the throngs in Seville have “gone”, but the heat remains, allowing you to enjoy the warm climate without the hustle and bustle.

    10. October in Cyprus

If you’re keen to bask in 28-degree sunshine while the UK endures gloomy wind and rain, then consider jetting off to Cyprus in October. Rob suggests: “This place is perfect for half-term or for one last trip before winter. In fact, you’ll forget it’s almost winter at home.”

    11. November in Egypt

As Britain fully succumbs to winter and temperatures begin to drop, you might fancy escaping to a sunnier country – particularly if you’re not planning a Christmas getaway. Rob recommends considering Egypt during this period, as the weather is “spot on” and it’s less crowded, with most sun-chasing tourists having visited over the summer.

    12. December in Dubai

Many Brits seeking a December escape still want to experience the wintry weather and will book trips to places like Germany for their Christmas markets or to Lapland to meet Father Christmas.

However, if that doesn’t appeal and you’d rather be lounging on a beach with a refreshing cocktail, then Rob advises a visit to the ever-popular tourist hotspot of Dubai. He claims the prices are “way cheaper than you might expect” in Dubai in December, allowing you to enjoy a luxury holiday for a fraction of the usual cost.
